Episode 32 - Whiskey Business II ~ Whiskier Business!

This is a huge episode.  Not only do the Gentlemen of Elegant Leisure do two fabulous drinks, but they also do a special remote recording from the White Rock Whisky Society’s Summer Soiree!  Listen in to hear the fun and check out what the White Rock Whisky Society gets up to here, or watch the video below.

The drinks this time around are identical but different.  It’s two different versions of a Whiskey Sour.  One with Scotch whisky (in this case Grant’s) and one with rye (we chose Sazerac to be interesting).  This is a simple drink that is greater than the sum of it’s parts.  Try it immediately.

Whiskey Sour

2 ounces Whisky
1 ounce lemon juice
3/4 ounce simple syrup (1:1 sugar and water)

maybe a splash of soda water . . .?

garnish with an orange peel twist

Build this drink in a glass over ice.  Stir until chilled.

The first drink we did with scotch, and it was great.  The second drink we did with the Sazerac and it was even better.  Try it at home with bourbon, or Irish Whiskey, or a different rye.
No matter how you make it, this is still a simple but wonderful drink.

Enjoy

Kudos on venturing out & doing a remote. Very curious to see where you'll go next!!
You'll have to keep an eye on Fred & his ingredients. I won't call it a trend just yet, however, he did forget the gin in a tasty concoction he whipped up this weekend. The addition of the gin (after a couple of sips) did kick things up a notch. I can't remember the names of either drinks served, but they were pretty darned good (once all ingredients added)!!
As a bonus, I got to sample (was forced to taste?) Fernet-Branca. Not sure I'd go out of my way for another taste.

I don't know if you can hear it through the raucousness of the Whiskey Society remote, but as a group they were split in their opinion of the Shaddock & Smoke. About 1/3 liked it, 1/3 thought it would be better with more Adrbeg, and a third thought it would be better if it was just Ardbeg!

Ah yes, the Alamagoozlum! Ten ingredients and I got a bit lost. The recipe calls for egg white and I used a commercial bottled egg white but it ended up making the drink a little sweet. Missing the genever did not help. I look forward to making this properly on the show!

Hello,

I'm thinking about opening a Whiskey Bar
in White Rock. Do you think there would
be enough of a need for it...?

Best,

Hi Greg!

The Gents discuss your question at the beginning of Episode 59. Give a listen!
